Can I get a croissant from a non kosher bakery if I know that the croissant itself is kosher? Do I have to be worried about possible lard coating on the machines? I saw that the Rama in YD 102:6 says regarding sweet pastries that they coat the machines with lard are assur, but he writes that that is the minhag, so seemingly there are those that disagree.
from the last line in the rama it seems that he limits his heter in his tshuva and doesn’t consider lard in bakeries to be lifgam. At least he says that is the minhag. I couldn’t find anyone who disagrees.

You can buy a croissant from a bakery without supervision. Ask them if it is vegetarian if you’re nervous.

The RAM”A is not arguing on his own Teshuva. He is talking about a scenario where it is normal to use animal fats, as it adds significant flavor. That would fit certain types of breads that a meaty flavor might be beneficial. However, a croissant or a bagel where adding a meaty flavor would not be appreciated, is fine and you don’t have to worry. Even if in some ridiculous scenario they used lard, it would be Noten Taam Lifgam.
The RAMA”H cannot cancel the Halachah of Noten Taam Lifgam.
