Netz and tefillah betzibbur are two separate advantages.
The basic idea of davening at netz is very simple. You want to do the mitzvah of Shacharit at its ideal time, as soon as the day has properly begun. In simple terms, this is the attitude of זריזים מקדימים למצוות, people who love a mitzvah do not unnecessarily push it off.
The Gemara in Berachot 9b calls these people ותיקין. Rashi explains:
ותיקין – אנשים ענוים ומחבבין מצוה
They were people who cherished the mitzvah.
The Gemara says that they arranged Kriat Shema so that they would finish it at sunrise:
כדי שיסמוך גאולה לתפלה ונמצא מתפלל ביום
This allowed them to connect גאולה לתפילה and begin the Amidah immediately at netz.
The Kesef Mishneh explains the Rambam very clearly: the mitzvah of Shacharit is ideally to begin the Amidah at sunrise, based on the Gemara’s pasuk:
ייראוך עם שמש
“The Rambam’s view is that the mitzvah of tefillah is immediately after netz.” The Kriat Shema is therefore timed immediately beforehand so that the two can be connected.
So netz has nothing inherently to do with having a minyan.
Tefillah betzibbur is one ma’alah. Netz is another ma’alah. If you are davening alone, you have lost the advantage of the minyan, but you can still have the advantage of davening at the ideal time.
Is netz an absolute obligation? No. Tosafot calls the practice of the Vatikin מצוה מן המובחר, the preferred and ideal way of performing the mitzvah. The normal zman of Shacharit continues afterward.
So there is no mystery here and we do not need Kabbalah to explain the basic concept.
The day begins, this is the ideal time for Shacharit, and the Vatikin loved the mitzvah enough to arrange their Kriat Shema precisely so that the moment netz arrived they could go directly from גאולה into the Amidah. Try it, and if done right, you will see that your day will be different.
There may certainly be deeper Kabbalistic explanations. But the simple Gemara explanation is zerizut and chibuv mitzvah: do the mitzvah properly, and do it at its best time.
