Hello Rabbi,
If one takes medicine everyday may it be taken on Yom Kippur? If so, how much water can one drink with the pills?
Thank You,
-Elad

If you only need to take one pill a day, the ideal solution is to take it late Erev Yom Kippur, and then take the next one right after the fast ends. Very seldom is that possible, though, since many medicines are more frequent or must be taken at set times.
If you take medicine on an ongoing basis, you are allowed to take it on Yom Kippur. Try to swallow it without water if you can. If you truly cannot, then ask your doctor whether it is safe to skip for one day. Sometimes the doctor may say it’s fine to miss a single dose. But if it is important—like blood pressure medicine, antibiotics, or anything you should not miss—then you must continue taking it.
In that case, you may use water up to about one ounce (the size of a small plastic shot cup you find in the store). That amount should be enough for almost all pills. If not, then use as much water as is necessary.
