Hello Rabbi,
I read your post about lighting a match on Yom Tov and was wondering whether the same logic applies other effortless methods of lighting a fire. For example, is it permissible to light a fire on Yom Tov using a lighter? A BBQ-knob igniter? Etc.
Also, does the fire always have to be for the purpose of preparing food or can one use a lighter to light candles for the 2nd day of Yom Tov? Or to make a bonfire?
Thank You,
Elad

As long as it in a circumstance where it wouldn’t be simple to have lit the fire before Yom Tov.
