Non shomrei shabbat friends bring kosher food on shabbat if they broke Shabbat to bring the food – are there circumstances under which we could eat it on shabbat?
For instance I know that historically there were communities that brought in Shabbat later than shkiah, consequently if they arrive before tzait could that bedeivad make it ok to eat the food?

It is not a problem. Whenever they come, welcome them, thank them, and enjoy their food.
Even if you invite them for Shabbat lunch it is fine.
Nowadays, people that don’t keep Shabbat hardly do Melachot de’Oraita anyway. For example, driving a car is definitely not de’orayta. Carrying in the street is not a de’orayta since nowadays we do not have Reshut HaRabim. Techum is not de’orayta. etc.
What is de’orayta is to invite them and welcome them and love them. So enjoy your company and be proud of the mitzvot you are doing.
Shlom Rabbi,
I came to the same conclusion after reading all your Teshuvot and answers. Many people that call themselves “not Shomer Shabbat” hardly do Melachot DeOraita and even DeRabannan. I heard from a Rabbi long time ago that nowadays creating literal fire would be the most problematic thing because most traditional Jews or non observant that rest on Shabbat hardly do anything that can be classified as a Melacha DeOraita.
For example, electricity is not DeOraita not DeRabannan unless you use it to do a Melacha which people hardly do it unless they cook something or wash clothes. Driving is not DeOraita nor DeRabannan according to your Teshuvah. The phone is not really an issue, not electronic writing, carrying nowadays is mostly DeRabannan. To be honest, if people learn Halakha properly and trust more those Rabbis that are honest, like you, can start to observe Shabbat fully and still have a lot of options to make it a wonderful day for spirituality, family, rest, and why not, fun.
Exactly. And if people only knew the truth, they might consider keeping Shabbat and keeping the other Mitzvot.
Ironically, the chumras are the direct cause for the people leaving and abandoning our religion.
