The lights in my stairwell and lobby turn on by motion sensor, my door lock is a keypad that lights up when I press it, and the hallway camera records me whenever I walk by. I’m not touching any of it – is walking into a sensor any different from flipping the switch, which you already permit?

Also my AC is cooling-only and digital – when I nudge the temperature up or down, the compressor kicks in or off later on its own. Is that fine?

And the kitchen: my dishwasher has delay-start – if I set it before Shabbat and the hot cycle runs on its own Friday night, does the timer logic cover it like your father’s siman 74 covers an oven, or does it matter that the machine heats the water itself? Same for a washing machine on a timer if the kibus itself happens on Shabbat. Grinding scraps down the garbage disposal – is that tochen when you’re destroying them rather than preparing food? And stepping on a digital scale?
