Can you elaborate more on the reason nowadays? The is an historical record of the Meiri on Magen Avot, 10 saying that the Ramban’s (Nachmanides) students were playing instruments on Shabbat. Nowadays we don’t even know how to fix an instrument.
And now, even if it is a prohibition to play an instrument, listening to music on Shabbat is fine?
Yes, you’re correct that the Meiri records a fascinating contrary practice among students of the Ramban. But the Meiri brings it specifically in order to challenge it, and it never became the accepted halacha. A gezera cannot be canceled without a Bet Din that is bigger than the original one in wisdom and size.
