Please… please… do not change your child’s typical diet to accommodate the Kitniyot Minhag. It was never meant for small children, and some kids don’t do well when you change their diet.

Kitniyot is only a Minhag. If a person goes to the store one extra time to buy non-Kitniyot items when he already has Kitniyot at home, he is putting himself in danger unnecessarily. Please be mindful. Better to eat Kitniyot rather than be in any risk at all.
