Shalom Rabbi,
Intuitively it seems that the following should be kosher for Passover and I am wondering in general about items that are certified gluten-free. Can we rely on that? Also I have been confused about buying things before Passover versus during Passover. Thank you Rabbi!
Ingredients:
Organic Brown Rice Syrup, Organic Almond Butter, Organic Protein Blend (Organic Sprouted Brown Rice Protein, Organic Pea Protein), Organic Almonds, Organic Puffed Brown Rice, Organic Chocolate Chips (Organic Coconut Sugar, Organic Cocoa, Organic Cocoa Butter), Organic Sunflower Seed Butter, Organic Cocoa Powder, Organic Coconut Sugar, Organic Natural Flavor, Sea Salt
Kosher for Pesach for all.
Your intuition is correct.
However….There are certain ingredients that can be wheat or barley based, and still get labeled as gluten free. They believe that during the processing process the gluten is removed. The most common is alcohol and vinegar. But glucose syrup can be a problem, although for allergen reasons they do list that it contains wheat. Otherwise, if you recognize the ingredients, No need to ask.
Also, if a company says a product is “naturally gluten free,” that would mean there’s no gluten ingredients and would be fine.
