Message: You had once said that one cannot play scrabble due to the fact that it is Bittul Torah. Why isnt this true for sports etc. etc.

Rabbi, Isn't "keeping fit" mentioned by Rambam (and Gemarah in few places) as mandatory and doesn't one have to maintain a healthy body in order to serve hashem? If yes, why is sport considered Bittul Torah?

Of Course, if one would engage in sports 8 hours a day.... but that was not the gist of the question as it was posed.


   
Reply:  If a game of Scrabble clears your head or relaxes you between your hours of studying, certainly enjoy it. If your health and well being is more than your study time, then we got a problem.
