Subject:  milk and meat utensils
Message:  Shalom Rabbi,

We are new to keeping kosher and have a question regarding meat and milk utensils and using them. If one uses a knife that is designated as a milk utensil and dips it (a clean knife) into jam or margerine to get some for bread, does this make the jam or margerine into 'milk' status? In other words, can one then take a knife designated for meat and use it with this same jar of jam or margerine?
