Subject:  Candle Lighting for Shabbat and Yomtov
Message:  Dear Rabbis,

When Shabbat and Yom Tov fall one after the other, can one light electric lights with the bracha "l'hadlik ner shel shabbat v'shel yom tov", or does one make only the bracha for "ner shel shabbat"?

Thank you very much for all you have done for us to make yom tov pleasant, enjoyable, and an uplifting experience!

Reply:  On Yom Tov that is immediately followed by Shabbat, my father says we do not light a new fire as the electric is our ("eekar") main light and it is already lit. So therefore we definitely do not make a Beracha. Your idea to say a Beracha when turning on the electric with both Shabbat and Yom Tov in mind on Erev Shabbat would not work as it is not close to Yom Tov yet and therefore one can not say V'Shel Yom Tov. Nice question! thx
