Subject:  Hamotzi versus Mezonot
Message:  Kavod Harav:

According to Sephardic tradition, if one is to eat a bread-like, for example a bagel or roll made primarily with ingredients other than water, does one wash hands and make a Hamotzi or is it mezonot?

On those products that are mezonot, what is the rule should one be Koveah Seudah with that item, for example, the bagel?

Todah Rabah.

Reply:  It doesn't go by tradition, but rather by society at large. Items eaten as a bread are Hamotzie, including bagels, rolls, pizza, and Matzah. Crackers, and the like, cake, cookies etc are all Mezonot.
