Subject:  Swimming
Message:  Dear Rabbi,

1. May one enter a pool/swim on Shabbat if one has a pool in his/her own home?

2. How about in a hotel/public pool, if one is away from home and staying at a hotel on Shabbat?

Thank you.

Reply: 1 & 2) Certainly. Bathing suit should be nylon or plastic, not absorbant.

Strangely enough, if you asked many people today, they'll say, "no way." Yet, ask them if it is OK to go to the Mikveh. They'll say, "certainly." Then try getting them to describe the difference. Watch them make up the strangest logic to justify their own confusion. It can be fun.

If the bathing suit is clean, (and it usually is) why cant it be of absorbent material?

the issue is Sechita (Squeezing out water) because of Kibbus(washing)
By the way. Polyester is ok too.
