Subject: filter coffee
Message: 1. what is the problem of making filter coffee on shabat? ie-hand pouring water from a cli sheni over roasted coffee in a filter over your cup?
2. a timer on a filter coffee machine would heat up the water on shabat, why is this ok?

Reply: 1. There is no problem. I changed the post that you are asking about.
I guess I had a knee jerk reaction to the question before. Filter is borrer- but not always)
2. It is the same as a timer for lights, a/c, etc.

I guess my question relates also to the one I have just posted about using a timer for the dishwasher. The water in the coffee machine is presumably cold, so is it permitted to heat it up on Shabbos itself, even with a timer? (My understanding is that only solid foods that have already been cooked may be reheated on Shabbos).

Reply:  If it is reheated by a timer, it is no problem. It can also be water from a hot water urn, that was poured into the coffee machine
