Subject:  electronic controls Yom Tov
Message:  Likhvod Harav,

Can a dsihwasher with electronic controls be used on Yom Tov?   We just replace our old one so if possible we'd like to be able to use for Shavuos.

the following are what
I believe may be issues:

1- Upon Opening th edoor, even if the machine is turned off , the handle that releases the door also pushes a button inside the latch that turns the elctronic display on Dispaly is lcd, Can the door be opened to put dishes in?

2 - The appl;iance has a timer to delay the beginning of the washing cycle up to 9 hours later.   however openeing the door shuts the display (LCD) bcause of the button in the door latch.
A --Can it be set before Yom Tov to start washing during Yom Tov Night?
B_-- Can more dishes be put in ON Yom Tov BEFORE THE wash cycle begins even though the electronic display LCD will turn off upon opening & then turn back on when shutting the door?

2 - Can the door of this be opened to put dishes into without setting the dishwasher to turn on?

3- Can we use it on YomTov i.e. is there a way of using it on Yom Tov?

Thanks for your help.

Reply:  Shabbos and Yom Tov are the same for a dishwasher. Test out your machine and see if you disconnect the power to it, whether it will hold the settings. Meaning it will still continue to wash.
If yes, then put in a clock (and a small light that is attached to the same outlet so you know if it is on) between the power and the machine. Then on Shabbos or Yom Tov, when opening the dishwasher, make sure the power is not on. Then load it and during the night it will go on.
