Subject:  shiva for adoptee
Message:  There is an issur of sitting Shiva if you are not required to.

I know that this site is for terse concise answers and not for discussion, but cvould you share iwth us the issur the Rav maintains is violated when an adoptee sits shiva for an adoptive parent?
Reply:  It is not 100% what everyone holds but that is what my father holds very tersely.
Look at the Gemara in Moed Katan Daf 27: and follow through with the Shulchan aruch and Miparshim where it is clear that mourning more than required is not to be done. That story of the person who mourned incorrectly and ended up mourning for other family mambers is pretty scary.
